Spring 2013

Buenas Tardes…..We hope this message finds you in good health and spirit....

We’re off to a great start this year…never a dull moment!

In January we finished tracking the first of what will surely be a series of “Volcan” albums, featuring Jose Armando Gola, Horracio “El Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo and me.  It is particularly gratifying to be reunited with my old friends after many years.  I have great respect for these guys and great hopes for a fruitful future together. The potential for this band is big. We are excitied about the album's eventual release and upcoming tour in Europe and South America.

In early February, we had the honor of participating in the tracking of Alex Sipiagin’s upcoming 5Passion album (no title as of yet) featuring some of the greatest artists in this realm, including Alex Sipiagin, Dave Holland, Antonio Sanchez and Seamus Blake. Pat Metheny wrote a tune specifically for this album and we were honored to track it. This disc should be released within a month or so…

After a week of rest, I found myself back in NYC to track my new album “Caminos” with Ernesto Simpson, Will Vinson, Seamus Blake, Alex Sipiagin, Matt Brewer and Pedrito Martinez. These outstanding musicians mastered  rather complex music and I have to say I feel honored to have been part of a spirited performance. It was a challenging session and we had lots of fun. We are hoping to include the guitar wizardry of Adam Rogers and Guthrie Govan in the mix. We expect this disc to be on the street sometime in August….

We are also awaiting the arrival of Yosvany Terry’s disc entitled “Ye-de-gbe” and Jose Armando Gola’s disc (no title yet) to be released soon.

In early April I will return to the road with the great Al DiMeola, playing various dates throughout New England followed by several gigs in May throughout Europe.

I’ll be touring with my trio and solo in the months to come.

Lot’s of other great things developing, all for which I’m humbled and thankful.

As always, thank you for your support.

Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Gary Galimidi and the 5Passion family!
